Template with 66 automated tests for your own side panel extension for Chrome: summarize the page, explain a selection, ask questions about the page – with an AI endpoint you enter yourself (local Ollama or an OpenAI-compatible API).

Compatibility: Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (version 116 or later). To build: Node.js 22.13 or newer.

Data: Contains no AI model. Only after you confirm does the extension send the page title, URL, visible text or your selection and your question to the AI address you enter yourself (by default your own computer). No data goes to Aramac. Settings and API key stay locally in your browser.

Permissions:

The extension asks for access to exactly one more address, your AI address, only during setup.

  • activeTab: access to the current page, only after your click
  • sidePanel: shows the side panel
  • storage: saves settings locally in the browser
  • scripting: reads the text of the current page
  • contextMenus: right-click menu entry

AI answers can be wrong. API costs are yours.
